The story takes place at Yraa, in the Middle East. Lorna, an English woman, come to visit an Arabian oasis. Lorna`s late father, an artist, had lived in Fadna, a desert oasis. Lorna wants to see her father`s last home for herself.
Lorna`s boyfriend, Rodney, a widely respected journalist, strongly urges her not to venture into the uncivilized, dangerous desert land alone.
A fortune teller uses grains of sand to predict that Lorna will be assaulted by a dark haired man. Lorna has a mind of her own and refuses to heed the warnings.
However in the desert Lorna is attacked and overpowered by men in black robes. To her great good fortunate Prince of the beni Saadi, Kasim ben Hussayn, a brave young man who is working for the unification of Arabia, rescues her. The Prince has been chasing horse thieves when he stumbled on Lorna. Charmed by her beautiful silvery-gold hair and deep blue eyes, he seizes Lorna and ride off with her to his camp.
Gradually Kasim`s rough charm wins Lorna`s heart. In spire of her new feelings for the Prince, Lorna realizes that the Arabian life style is not for her and she waits for a chance to escape from the Prince`s desert camp.
Layla loves Kasim madly. In bitter jealousy she deceives Lorna. Layla makes Lorna think she has a chance to escape but Layla`s only interest is to drive Lorna out of the camp. Out in the desert a violent sand storm rises suddenly. Lorna is thrown from her horse and abandoned. Injured and delirious she believes she can hear Kasim`s call. Lorna holds Kasim to her breast. Meanwhile Kasim`s father is stricken by a heart attack and the young Prince must return to his father`s palace at Sidi Kebir at once.
