A Small Flower Has Bloomed
Shigeji loses his parents and his family’s shop in a disastrous fire. While working hard to rebuild the family business all by himself, he raises the children who have been orphaned by the fire. The tale portrays Shigeji’s struggle between working and helping others and the pursuit of righteousness.
Sicilian Sunset
Based on the true events of the armed insurrection on Sicily against occupying French forces in the late 13th century.
In the 13th century the people of Sicily were suffering under oppressive French rule. Some brave young people, including Arigo, aim to support a rebellion to place the last remaining heir of the former royal family on the throne, Princess Elena.
One day, after Arigo has rescued Elena from some French soldiers in front of the palace, Governor de Montfort is summoned. De Montfort thinks that Arigo might be his own son, from a time 20 years past when he first arrived in Sicily and fell in love with a woman there. When Arigo hears this he is shocked, and quickly denies the governor's words and runs off.
Arigo and his friends decide to use the furor of a farmer's wedding to raze the governor's mansion, and pull it off. The governor is nearly killed, except that Arigo shields him at the last minute.
For this insurgency first Elena, and then all of the rebels, are arrested, and Arigo is branded a traitor by the people.
Arigo appeals the execution orders for Elena and her rebels, saving them. The rebels are released on the condition that Elena marries Arigo.
The day of Elena and Arigo's wedding arrives, and the furious islanders rise in revolt, attacking the governor's mansion....
- Although it says it is based on true events, Sicilian Sunset doesn't seem to have a shred of historical fact to it, especially if it's based on the War of the Sicilian Vespers, as the summary seems to imply.
- Final performance for Azusa Chiyoko and Hiiro Maki.
