It depends on which DVD you are looking to buy. Most of the DVDs are priced at JPY10 500, or US$90. But there are some that cost like JPY6300 or US$54, though not many.

For double disc editions and other special editions prices might run even higher. So it depends on what you are looking to buy really.

If you want to look at the price list of the DVDs, books/mooks, or even star/stage goods, you can go to the Hankyu Books website. They just upgraded their site and the new (but I think temporary) address is:

You might have to set your browser to encoding Shift JIS to see the Japanese text on the websites. If your friend has a Japanese address, you can even buy from the site (pay with your credit card) and then ship the stuff to her address so that she can bring it home.

How much do Takarazuka performance DVDs (or suchlike) run? I am lucky enough to have a friend in Japan, and it kinda makes sense to give the poor girl money BEFORE she goes home for break (we attend the same college).

She was awesome enough last year to buy me a beautiful yukata- I reciprocated with Phantom (the Broadway one) tix. I found out later the exchange was within a hairsbreadth of even. So I have no idea how they price things in Japan...

Gee ... Mom and I are hoping we might win lottery right now so we can go to Japan to watch Phantom, but that is like kind of impossible. I would really wish to watch a performance live, but watching DVDs are still great. :)

So many kindred spirits on these boards-- I love it! I come from a theatre background, which explains my many obsessions. Unfortunately, I'm one of the only artists in my huge family and am frequently teased for my love of foreign musicals, specifically Bollywood and Takarazuka. My mother did indulge me the other night by listening to my Elisabeth-related ramblings while watching "Yami Ga Hirogaru." I told her that when she comes to visit me in Japan I'm dragging her to whatever show the Flower Troupe happens to be performing. She said that it sounded like fun, and I'm pleased that it didn't take much pleading on my part to get her to agree. Unfortunately, I don't think it will be as easy to convince her to see one of the hyper Sera Myu shows. Ah well... ;)

How nice of a mother to like Takarazuka too and go along with her daughter. I got to say I'm impressed with that:) Unfortunately there are 0% of possibility that I would get my family in to Takarazuka. My parents, if I may say are somewhat very conservative, strict, whatever you may call it. They say it's nonsense and what would I get in watching those (especially when they do not understand the language), that's why I watch on the other TV when a show is aired on tv. They said they prefer me watching something knowledgeable like discovery channel or national geographic...just do as they say, they give a different meaning when you talk back(one of the many "rules" in our house is never talk back).

But still, they won't change my mind. I love takarazuka before and will as always.

Before I got the DVD I was watching all of Elisabeth Flower's clips on Youtube until it was pathetic. I could watch the same few clips for hours in the middle of the night till next morning when I should be uh ... sleeping. So I really understand how you feel. Osa is jsut so great that the more you watch Yamiga Hirogaru, the more you will realize you will replay the entire scene in your mind when you are:

eating,
cooking
crossing the road
reading
working
shopping (I don't even do that anymore, all the money I have I go to takarazuka-video.com and spend it right away)
trying to sleep but obviously can't
checking your email when you realized you have somehow started loading Yamiga Hirogaru on Youtube for the 300th time

Meanwhile, try to hang in there!

Thank you, everyone! I'm going to try my darndest not to buy it now, but I've thought of almost nothing but "Elisabeth" since seeing those clips (I've heard "Yami Ga Hirogaru" so many times it's now officially pathetic). Haruno Sumire is unearthly; I mean striking just doesn't cover it. The woman is flat-out amazing. I think my first reaction to seeing her as Death was *Guh...* O.o

Anyway, I appreciate the warm welcome. I have a feeling I'll be hanging out here a lot ;)

I'd just like to offer my sympathies. I too was drawn into the fandom by a couple of tantalizing clips online (not of Elisabeth, though that would have done the job just as effectively), and didn't get hold of a single complete show for almost a month. During which time I read most of the livejournal community archives and started a Takarazuka-inspired novella, just in an effort to comfort myself and channel the obsession. So, yeah... my sympathies. -P

I consider it quite a health hazard to constantly replay Elisabeth in your mind while doing things like ... crossing the road. But otherwise, I just let it happen. :P

Which raises the entirely valid question, "Why would you even TRY to get Osa out of your mind?"

Yep I agree that Flower Elisabeth is the best ... gee I must have watched it like every other day since I got the DVDs, and now I can't get Osa out of my mind!
