Question about Ken term

I might be wrong but this one always confused me and I had the wrong impression of Ken counting until I found out how the Ken is counted.

english is not my first language so that might be the case of my confusion but talking around about ken's with other fans from west I realized that they had the same impression as I had in the beginning.

"Kenkyuuka 1-nen means "postgraduate course year 1", signifying that the seito debuted within the last year."

what I get from this very line is that:

a kid who graduated lets say in april 2009 became a ken 1 in april 2010.

in reality the counting is like this:
she is ken 1 in april 2009(graduation) and became a ken 2 in april 2010

this understanding comes from conversations with Japanese fans and also the way Jennus themselves refer to ken.
for example
in JURI GOGO 5 episode in 2010 when Ouki Kaname was the main guest she said that she is ken 11 (graduated in 2000) and when they talked about Rei Makoto, she said the kid was Ken 2 (graduated in 2009)

I think maybe the way the explanation in the wiki is phrased is just confusing, especially if English isn't your native language.

The wiki is trying to say the same thing as you are, I think: When someone graduates, they are ken-1. They become ken-2 one year after they graduate. This is the way I always learned the system too.

Maybe there's a way we could rephrase the wiki entry so it's clearer? What do you think?
