General Information & Navigation

Since a reorganization of the General Information resp. Help & Guides part is being discussed, and it has been suggested to include the main points of General Information on the main page, I'd like to offer some alternate layouts for the 'navigation' segment of the main page:

Frontpage Test

So I guess since no one has commented in a while... did you want to make the final call, Kya? Or wait through the weekend on the chance a few more folks might log in then?

Honestly? I was waiting for this thread and the results to be acknowledged by the webmistress. :)

I think it's clear what the favorites are, and it's unlikely that the result will change. So it's no. 4, "Fan Activities" and "Takarazuka Revue". Since I cannot edit the main page, you or Lucia will have to do it. ^^;;

Agreed. The real newbies that this will affect the most probably aren't even registered.

And I like no. 4 too? Yay Kya. :)

that or they may just be so overwhelmed at the information that's at their fingertips about the actresses that they aren't looking at the forums...after all it took me how long to finally venture into the forums?! plus they just may not feel like the know enough (if they're newer fans) to really help contribute...even in opinions. but that may also just be me personally b/c i'm just weird ;-p

Sorry, I thought I had responded to this but I guess I never did. Agreeing with this , all around

I agree, the headlines should be easy to understand for foreigners. "Basic information" is as clear and easy as it gets, but with General Information already heading that section, it's sort of redundant. I think just "Takarazuka Revue", as Jen suggested, would be good. With the context of the other subheadlines it should take the newbies where they want to go (and where we think they should go) first.

I like "The Basics" and have absolutely no attachment whatsoever to calling it "101". In fact, rather the opposite. It was just the first thing that came into my head to describe what I meant.

What do you think of Gen's idea of putting the "Zuka 101" at the top. I say call it "Takarazuka Revue" or "Takarazuka Revue 101"? And then History, etc. And I know you didn't like "Fandom". How about "Fan Activities"?

If Gen thinks 4 alone is fine, I say go with 4 too. The completely collapsible version looses too much, I think.

> What about something like this? I'm not really familiar with the coding, is there some way to get rid of the extra spacing above the collapsible lists?

Unfortunately it seems impossible to get rid of the spaces in the SPLIT environment. :-/ And the listing/hiding doesn't work at all in regular tables.

What's possible is a complete vertical sitemap-style tree with 2 or more collapsible levels. (I added an example at the bottom of my test page.)

Maybe our July poll will be about the TakaWiki itself. :)

> I'm trying to think of ways to address Gen's issue.

I *also* like the original #4 best (though I break with the pack in liking #1 second-best). I think with the variations, we lose a lot of the clarity and the little "+" signs to click on just don't look that good in my browser. Plus, I think they're easy to miss.

Just doing #4 to start with would I think make a *big* difference in the navigability of the site. :)

I agree on the adjustment losing clarity, but if we could get rid of the spacing, so that it looks like the one below, then I don't think it would be so bad. I'm trying to think of ways to address Gen's issue. I think it is true that people tend to skim over things and really have no idea what they're missing by not clicking.

KyaniteD my vote of your ideas is no.4. I like the way it's laid out - easy to figure you & aesthetically pleasing b/c it doesn't leave so much empty space on the page.

I also like caithion's adjusted no.4. Especially easy to navigate for new fans. i also like you subheadings. This one might also help lliriblanc's translation thing find a good home within the wiki.

sorry that i can't provide any other assistance. I'm clueless when it comes to coding.

Added the polls, changed the to   and added collapsible subheadlines. Tables cannot be collapsed/hidden as far as I know, only list items.
