shuugoubi (集合日): literally, "meeting day"
This is the first day of rehearsals, at which every seito scheduled to appear in that performance is required to attend. Generally this is a light day of "rehearsals" that involves reading through the script together and receiving role assignments.
In many cases the principal roles are announced before shuugoubi, but for most seito (and fans) it is an exciting day of hearing casting announcements. On rare occasions, however, the script is not finished and role assignments are not given out until a few days after rehearsals begin.
The first day of rehearsals is also traditionally when star retirements are officially announced, except for those of top stars, which are announced earlier.
