In Buenos Aires, Argentina, director of documentary films Tom and reporter Tracy are interviewing former movie star Michael Goldberg in front of a nightclub. Goldberg tells them the reason why he left Hollywood for Buenos Aires where he has been staying since: he is eager to make a film starring Carlos and other tango dancers.

Carlos wishes to become a top tango dancer. He partners up with Frasquita and his goal is to win the contest. A young woman named Mirva drops in to the nightclub where Carlos is working. She is learning painting under Gomez, an authority in the world of art. Mirva hopes to become a painter and win a prize in a contest. Carlos and Mirva find out that they share the same dream. They both have an affinity to see penguins freely living in nature. They promise to go and see penguins together if they win their respective contests which are to be held a few weeks later.

Fabiel, the proprietor of the nightclub where Carlos works, owns various businesses and aids dancers until they find their success. He has been in love with Frasquita for a long time. One day when Frasquita is looking for Carlos, Fabiel offers her a lift home but gets a flat refusal. She thinks of Carlos more than just a simple dance partner. Carlos is then seeing his elder brother Alonzo who is telling Carlos that he is going on a journey. Frasquita walks in, immediately followed by strange men at her heels. Alonzo and the three men start shooting at each other. Frasquita is so badly wounded by a stray bullet that she is not only unable to take part in the coming contest but is also obliged to give up the idea of becoming a professional dancer. Informed of the accident, Fabiel fires Carlos and asks him to take her along with him as far away as possible and to stay out of sight of Fabiel's gang.

Gomez severely criticizes the work which Mirva is thinking of entering in the contest. However, art dealers and art critics who call on Gomez are loud in praise of Mirva's work as they take it for Gomez's new work. Seeing this, Gomez's wife Arine orders Mirva to make rough sketches for Gomez. Mirva, as a matter of course, cannot be convinced to do so and makes the decision to leave Gomez.

Both Mirva and Carlos were, as a matter of fact, frustrated halfway in their schemes. Neither could reach their goal of winning their respective contest. Nonetheless, Mirva comes to the cafe where penguins can be observed. This is the day and the place she had promised to meet Carlos again. Carlos also turns up. Both are curious to know the results of the other and shyly show up. Consequently, in spite of their results, they decide to start a new life together.

One day, Benito who had been Carlos's rival in dance stays at the hotel where Carlos works as a page. Carlos tells Benito who cares about him, how he is gets along by teaching the tango to Juan, a young man working in the same hotel. He also reveals his resolution to only dance for his pleasure and not as a professional dancer. Mirva has found a job in maintenance at an amusement park and is devotedly painting pictures on signboards. Her pictures are quite popular with children. Mirva and Carlos who started a new life together encouraging each other seem to have found new ambitions and joy. And in the natural course of things, they have become indispensable to one another.

One year later, Juan participates in a dance contest on Carlos's suggestion. He wins his way up to the final match, when he suddenly breaks down because of an old cardiac complaint. Juan who adores Carlos begs him to dance in his place in the final selection. Carlos goes to the final selection wearing a hat that is so deep that it hides his identity. He is not really convinced he can succeed.

All the gods and goddesses sing and dance celebrating the birth of Zeus. Zeus's brothers, the god of hell Hades, the god of the sea Poseidon, and the prettiest, wisest, noblest goddess of marriage Hera are among them.

A devilishly good-looking young man Narcissus plays with nymphs by a beautiful lake deep in the woods. He falls in love with his reflection in the mirror and goes into it.

Zeus, Hades and Poseidon each sings about his ideal woman. The ideal women appear and seduce them. When they get sober, the women disappear. Left behind, Zeus and his brothers chase the women dancing as though they were competing with each other.

Hercules who looks like a sacred torch relay runner shows up. As soon as he sings, "May men be strong", a troop of pretty women with well-trained bodies come in and execute a chorus line.

Zeus sings the beginning of a tragedy. The goddess of jealousy Hera, the goddess of wisdom Athena, and the goddess of love Aphrodite each pretend to be the best. Zeus at a loss charges the Trojan Prince Paris to judge. Aphrodite offers Paris the Spartan princess Helen in exchange for his choosing her as the best. Paris is so attracted to Helen that he judges Aphrodite to be the best. The fury of Hera and Athena causes the Trojan War.

The two parties fight each other in the Trojan War. This develops in the form of a dance competition with music played on the zither. Zeus plays the part of a narrator singing about the development. Hector and Paris lead the Trojans while Achilles heads the Greeks.

Hera tempts Hector in the disguise of a nightwalker (Nifta). As soon as the Trojans fall unwary, an army of Greeks rushes out to attack them, and the Greeks finally prevail over the Trojans.

The Trojan War has ended. Zeus stands alone in his ruined temple. He questions the meaning of life and the continuity of the world. For the first time, he gets impatient at being incapable of doing anything and feels defeated.

The Grand Staircase leading toward the heavens appear. Zeus and Hera perform a gorgeous duet. Then, Zeus, Hades and Poseidon nobly and valiantly dance.
