(from official site)
Edward Bloom fascinates those around him by telling his life story as if it was a fairy tale. His bizarre stories captivate his young son Will, including srories about a witch who can see into the future, a giant he traveled with, and his encounter with his beloved wife Sandra at the circus. However, as Will grows up, he begins to believe that everything is just a myth, and Edward begins to distance himself from him. One day, Will comes back to see him after a long absence. Wanting to know what his father's life was really like, Will begins to follow in his footsteps, and the truth about Edward gradually becomes clear...
(personal description)
The musical switches between the present, where Edward Bloom and his son Bill are having a hard time to understand each other, and past, where real events are mixed with Edwards fairy tale like stories about his life that he told Bill and his wife, Josephine. Throughout the musical, the stories form a chronological but magical retelling of the real happenings in the Edwards life.
Since Bill was little, Edward would always tell him such stories. His son, of course, was sceptical but loved them nonetheless. Bill grows up and, approaching his own fatherhood, swears that he will not tell lies to his son like his father did. Edward, refusing to "tell it like it is" even when he is about to die, is met by his sons suspisions about a past affair, and they continue to grow further away. Bill tries to uncover the truth only to find out about his fathers good deeds, that he never told him. Edward is dying, and Bill rushes to the hospital. Together they create an ending to the Edwards story.
