110 Years of Takarazuka Love Songs
A performance that showcases a selection of love songs from the most memorable Japanese-style shows of Takarazuka Revue’s 110-year history and weaves them into a new production. Enjoy this show that connects the traditional Japanese-style shows of Takarazuka with the future.
Lamenting love lost, Fujiwara no Teika doubts he would ever compose a love poem again. Amidst his lamentations, a mysterious figure appears before him. Beckoned by this beautiful woman who has been performing and singing about the joy, beauty, and pain of love, Teika sets off on a journey to a mysterious world overflowing with love songs...
Razzle Dazzle
The story takes place in Los Angeles in the 1950s. As always, the revelry of the hedonistic celebrities is in full swing this evening at Razzle Dazzle, a nightclub on the Sunset Strip near Hollywood.
They are greeted by its new owner, Raymond Blue. Having lost his wealthy parents and inherited a vast fortune as a child, he is dubbed “the richest orphan in Hollywood,” but the inheritance comes with conditions that have to be met.
To claim it, Raymond has to marry Abigail (Abby), the only daughter of his guardian and distant relative, businessman Richard Winters, and eventually become his successor. However, Raymond despises his materialistic fiancée and flatly refuses to marry her. To start his own business and to find a way out of his current situation, that’s what made him decide to buy his favorite nightclub.
Abigail, seeking to criticize Raymond, visits the nightclub with her father. While Raymond dreams of “true love” just like the plot in a movie, Abigail decisively tells him that no woman in the world would ever love him without his fortune. Their argument escalates, and at this point, Tony, who is Raymond’s close friend and a movie star, proposes a bet.
The bet is this: if Raymond can make someone fall for him without revealing his identity as the richest man in Hollywood, Abigail will give up on marrying him and persuade Richard to allow Raymond to gain full control of his fortune; but if Raymond fails, he must immediately propose marriage to Abigail.
Abigail then adds a twist: she makes Tony join the game as Raymond’s romantic rival. What they also need is someone to be the heroine ─ the one who doesn’t know Raymond’s true identity...
At this very time, a young woman who fits the bill walks into the nightclub. Her name is Dorothy, and she has just arrived in Hollywood from a small town in Kansas with dreams of being in a movie.
Raymond chases after Dorothy, who has left her bag behind when leaving the nightclub, trying to attract her attention by pretending to be nice to her. Just then, Tony appears. He pretends that Raymond is his personal assistant and offers Dorothy the chance to become an extra in the musical movie he is starring in. She is overjoyed by the unexpected offer from the star she admires. Not wanting Tony to get ahead, Raymond also applies to be an extra in the movie.
The next day, the filming of the large-scale musical movie “Sunset in Babylon” is underway at Cosmo Pictures, a major film studio. Using his privileges as a movie star, Tony selects Dorothy as his dance partner. Meanwhile, Raymond struggles with his unfamiliar work as a movie extra rather than trying to outshine his rival and win Dorothy’s affection. To make matters worse, he runs into Charlene, a troublemaking actress with whom he was once in love.
As Raymond dreams of “true love” while struggling to win “false love”, what will be the ultimate outcome of his dreams?
