Some time past in the mythical period of Korea, the heavenly child Hwanung, who has not fulfilled his decree, seals the agony of his tragic love and the powers of the four gods into artifacts and foretells that a true king will be born in the days to come.
An unusually bright star appears in the skies of Goguryeo. It is the sign much talked about and longed for by people for centuries that the king of the heavenly land Jushin is about to come into the world. At the same time, the four gods: the Black Turtle-Snake (Hyeon-Mu), the Red Phoenix (Ju-Jak), the White Tiger (Baek-Ho) and the Blue Dragon (Cheong-Ryong) wake up from a long sleep in order to guard the king.
Born under the predestined star, Damduk finds himself involved in wars ever continuing for thousands of years and suffers in hopeless love. Damduk grows to become a true king overcoming nonstop difficulties of all kinds all the while looking for the true identity of the one that guards the four gods.
