Someday We'll Meet

In the Genroku Period (late 17th century), in a border town, a female kabuki troupe at the height of their popularity sets up shop in the center of town. Young Takayama Ukon comes along, intoxicated with the blossoms as always. The troupe's star is a girl named Rise, who really draws the eye.

On this occasion, a rounin named Tsune Tougo bursts in, with his eye on Rise. The troupe members are thrown into an uproar, and Ukon and Sarumaru the troupe master subdue Tougo.

According to Torou, his father is a border official, and a Portuguese merchant name Geisbert who lived along the border had had a priceless statue of the Virgin Mary stolen. The burden had caused Tougo's father to depart from this world.

Rise is the daughter of that Portuguese man, although in truth she is not his real daughter, as before her mother married him she had Rise with a Japanese man.

Tougo tells Ukon that he has been searching for the thief of that statue, which is why he has been in pursuit of Rise.

Rather than investigate a sensitive young lady, Ukon explains that he can help, but Tougo flatly refuses. Ukon's sister Hanae is a strong-willed young lady who impulsively befriends the chivalrous Tougo, who is fascinated by her.

The Virgin Mary statue, according to Tougo's deductions, seems to have been stolen by Rise's real father. Who holds the key to the resolution of the mystery of the statue....?
